Being selected as one of the preferred agencies for the National Health Service, gave us the chance to do exactly what the doctor ordered! Working with every Primary Care Trust in Yorkshire, our role was to maximise awareness amongst patients of their right to choose. The campaign has included press briefings for the Secretary of State for Health, round table discussions on regional radio stations, involving patients and GPs, organising balloon releases to mark the one millionth patient chooser in each region and visits by local celebrities and dignitaries to individual hospitals. We also organised visits by the regional and national health editors to hospitals in the region, which resulted in some tremendous coverage. Evaluation of the campaign proved that awareness of Choice in this region had increased by 25 per cent – definitely a case of a campaign well conceived!
