Charity gets a sporting chance thanks to stars!

It’s not every day you get a chance to come face to face with some of the best known stars from the World of sport, so we were delighted when to be asked to help organise an event for the Chris McGuirk charity on behalf of our client Eurocell Building Plastics.  The event was attended by Manchester United footballer, Ryan Giggs and champion boxers Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton, who showed up to support Chris McGuirk, the young rugby player who was paralysed whilst playing for his local club.

The Chris McGuirk Project was founded in 2006 shortly after the young rugby player was paralysed whilst playing for his local club, De La Salle.  The project has run many events to raise money, the latest of which is the purchase of a specially designed house to help Chris with his day-to-day life.

Chris’s friends recently invited a host of sports personalities around to the house, which is nearing completion, to increase awareness and help raise more donations.  Manchester United footballers Ryan Giggs and Phil Bardsley were joined by champion boxers Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan and a host of other sportsmen, managers and pundits. 

As a distributor of building plastics, Eurocell has donated the fascias, soffits and cladding to the £170,000 purpose-built house.  Many of his old team mates are skilled tradesmen and will most likely be fitting the EBP roofline products themselves along with the plumbing, brickwork and electrics.

Mary McNulty, EBP’s depot manager at Trafford was astounded when ex-Everton and England player turned manager Peter Reid, turned up to ask for the products personally!

Paul Dixson, EBP Northern Regional Manager, explains: “We were very happy to donate the EBP products to the Chris McGuirk project and it is amazing to see how people have rallied around to support this young man. Chris’s new house isn’t far from our Trafford Depot so it’s fitting that it now displays many of our roofline items.”

John Camilerii, Chairman of the Chris McGuirk Project, said, “Our main aim was always to build a house for Chris to help both him and his carers.  The lads at the club had the skills to do it themselves being plumbers, brickies and electricians. So, once we’d raised the money we needed and found a site, we could get going with the build.  Chris, myself and all involved with the Project would like to thank all the companies involved for their generosity in helping us make this happen."
